Brussels Airlines to Launch Direct Flights to Kilimanjaro in 2026
Etihad Airways is set to bring back one of its most sought-after leisure routes with the relaunch of seasonal flights to Zanzibar, the world-famous “spice island” in the Indian Ocean. Starting June 14, 2026, the airline will operate four weekly flights from Abu Dhabi to the Tanzanian archipelago, catering to strong summer demand from Europe and the GCC. The service will run until September 6, 2026.
Etihad confirmed that Zanzibar is the 30th new destination added to its network this year, underscoring its accelerated global expansion strategy.
Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways said,
“Zanzibar is the perfect summer escape and we are thrilled to welcome it back to our growing network,”
“We know it’s a destination our guests have been eager to see return, and we can’t wait to connect them to this unique island paradise.”
The decision to reinstate Zanzibar flights comes on the back of Etihad’s expanded European network. The carrier has added multiple double-daily services into Abu Dhabi, with efficient connections provided by two major European banks, making the Indian Ocean island more accessible than ever for holidaymakers across Europe and the Gulf.
The route will be served by Etihad’s Airbus A320 aircraft, offering both Business and Economy cabins.
Zanzibar, part of Tanzania, is a UNESCO World Heritage destination known for its historic Stone Town, vibrant spice plantations, and pristine beaches. Travelers can enjoy world-class diving, explore centuries-old alleyways, or combine a beach holiday with East Africa’s iconic safaris in the Serengeti or near Mount Kilimanjaro.
The route is expected to attract both leisure travelers seeking sun and sand, as well as adventure tourists looking to pair Zanzibar with mainland Tanzania’s wildlife experiences.
Alongside Zanzibar, Etihad recently introduced Palma de Mallorca to its summer schedule. Together, the two destinations strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a hub for sun-soaked getaways in both the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean.
Tickets for the Zanzibar service are now on sale through Etihad’s website and mobile app.
With Zanzibar’s return and continued additions to its summer network, Etihad is signaling that it intends to aggressively expand into seasonal leisure markets. Industry analysts expect the carrier to continue targeting high-demand holiday destinations as part of its growth strategy into 2026 and beyond.
