Brussels Airlines to Launch Direct Flights to Kilimanjaro in 2026 Brussels, Belgium – November 2025  Brussels Airlines has announced that it will launch direct flights to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) in Tanzania starting June 3, 2026, strengthening the connection between Europe and East Africa. The airline will operate two weekly flights, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, using the Airbus A330-300 aircraft configured in three classes - Business, Premium Economy, and Economy. The route will follow a triangular pattern: Brussels → Kilimanjaro → Nairobi → Brussels. ICAO Assembly Elects New Council Member States

Montréal, The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has announced the results of elections for Part I and Part II of its Council at the 42nd Session of the ICAO Assembly. The newly elected States will serve a three-year term on the 36-member governing body of the UN aviation agency.

Part I – States of Chief Importance in Air Transport

The following ten countries, recognized for their leading role in global air transport, secured seats under Part I:

  • Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Part II – States Contributing to International Air Navigation

Twelve additional seats were filled under Part II, which recognizes countries making significant contributions to the provision of international civil air navigation facilities:

  • Argentina, Colombia, Denmark, Egypt, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, and Switzerland.

Part III Elections Ahead

The election process will continue on 30 September 2025, when Member States will vote for Part III of the Council, which ensures balanced geographic representation across ICAO’s global membership.

ICAO’s Role

The ICAO Council acts as the Organization’s governing body, directing activities related to international aviation safety, security, efficiency, and environmental sustainability. With 193 member states, ICAO works to expand safe and inclusive access to air transport while advancing its goals of zero aviation fatalities and net-zero carbon emissions.

What’s Next

Once all three parts are finalized, the newly composed Council will begin its three-year term, setting global aviation priorities through 2028. The outcome of the Part III elections will be closely watched, as they will determine how regional balance is maintained in ICAO’s decision-making process.
